Welcome to year 2!

To kick-start the year, we have introduced a new topic called ‘Brainwave’. We will be looking at how we learn, what we can do to help us learn and our own preferred learning styles. Our new topic is ‘Buildings’ and this half term we will be focusing on significant buildings around the world. We will be looking at important historical structures such as the Eiffel Tower, London Bridge and the Taj Mahal. We are looking forward to learning all about different buildings and their uses.

In English our Power of Reading text is called ‘Rapunzel’ by Bethan Woolvin. This term we will be focusing on traditional tales and will even be writing some of our own! We will be planning, writing and editing our own versions of traditional stories and will explore the use of different types of punctuation, story language and description.

Maths

In maths we will be looking at place value and using this to compare and order numbers. We will also look at addition and subtraction, building on the facts we have learnt in Year One.

Our Science topic this term is called ‘Materials’. We will be looking at a range of materials to determine their uses and suitability for different purposes. We will be using scientific vocabulary to compare and evaluate various materials.
