Homework

At Edenbridge Primary School, we are always looking for ways to encourage children to continue their learning beyond the classroom. Each half term, teachers create a homework menu with tasks linked to the learning inside the classroom. Children are invited to complete one task per week in the hope that by the end of the half term they have completed the majority of tasks. We provide additional support for children who might struggle to fit homework in at home with two weekly homework clubs.

In addition, each week teachers set weekly spelling homework and times tables homework. This is linked to the week's current learning in class.

How to support your child at home

There are many ways you can help your child at home:

  • Read with them and to them as often as you can and ideally every day.
  • For older children, try to be a role model by reading yourself and discussing what you are reading with your children.
  • Talk to them - as often as possible and as much as possible. This helps them so much with their vocabulary, sentence structure and ability to write imaginitively.
  • If possible given them experiences outside of school. The more opportunities children have to experience the world, the more it will improve their learning. This could be a visit to the local park, a trip  further afield or even just a ride on a bus, which can be a fantastic learning opportunity.
  • Encourage them and praise them with their learning!
