Jennifer Prempeh visit

During one of the hottest weeks in the UK ever, Stewart Fleming welcomed a teacher from our partner school in Ghana, Jennifer Prempeh.

Miss Prempeh observed and taught lessons, visited the other Pioneer schools and got fully immersed in British culture; visiting London and the seaside, enjoying a takeaways and fish and chips.

The only thing we couldn't let Miss Prempeh experience was the true British weather - the temperatures here were hotter than her hometown in Ghana!

Ghana

Stewart Fleming is proudly partnered with Dunyan Nkwanta Primary School in Ghana. This partnership provides opportunities for children to become global citizens, allowing them to explore different cultures, communities and environments.

Last year, two teachers from Stewart Fleming were given the chance to visit Ghana in order to meet the teachers and children involved in the project, whilst a teacher from Dunyan Nkwanta visited our school to do the same. This fantastic opportunity allowed both schools to gain first hand experiences of the diverse cultures and localities, school life and responsibilities both inside and outside of school. As well as this, we developed a joint curriculum which is currently being piloted in years 2 and 5, focussing on the use of water and sustainable living.

Following the success of the first visit, we are delighted to confirm that we have successfully secured funding for another reciprocal visit to take place. These visits are vital in maintaining the relationship and help us to further embed the partnership into the ethos of both schools and their local communities.

Ghana Toilet Fund

As many of you will be aware we have been raising funds for our partner school in Ghana – Dunyan Nkwanta, to help them buy a new toilet.  All the proceeds from our Christmas production programmes and bucket collections went to this great cause.  We have also had a kind donation from the Ghanaian church that meets at our school.  Look out for future events to support this great cause and our partner school.
